Green Tip: Lighting - Change Those Bulbs

Replace those incandescent light bulbs with compact florescent bulbs. CFLs use less energy and last much longer. The upfront cost is more, but over time the CFLs will save you more money in energy costs. There is some controversy that it takes more energy to manufacture a CFL compared to an incandescent bulb, but one CFL will usually last as long as up to 10 incandescent bulbs while using 4 times less energy. Energy Star has a lot more detailed information on the different types of CFLs and how to choose the right bulb for you.

Don’t forget when you turn off a light, you’re saving energy and money. Every time you come across a light that is on, or leave a room, turn the light off.

Glad to see someone else with a balanced view.

If you want to read more about CFLs, I have a fair bit of information at: http://ryan-technorabble.blogspot.com/search/label/CFL

By the way, as to that controversy, think about it a second. Is the production energy even important? How much production energy can go into a $3 bulb? Less than $3 worth. If the bulb saves $45 in electricity then it's impossible the net benefit isn't positive.

I see that flimsy "might use more" argument all over. It's shocking how easy it is to make such claims that are so easily contradicted.

Cfls are the worse thing they coulda made it contains mercury i dont care how small amount u say anything that does contain that is bad for your health. The best and only way they should have gone is with LED light bulbs they save more money they dont drop cell phone and wireless signals or tv signals like the CLFs do. So if u really want to go green i dont know why go with leds then cfls.

I completely agree, there are little things we can do at home and on the go that can make major differences in the world. Being Green is not only about what you can do on your own it's about educating people about why the worlds resources are so important and doing what you can to help.

As a member of the Green community when I find a resource that I find to be useful and informative, it seems only appropriate to share it with my friends and community as a whole. So, I feel it is my duty to share www.greeneutopia.com ! It is an excellent resource for those who are always looking for new and up to date info on the green community. They also have an online store that is replete with those hard to find green items that make our lives all a little easier. They make it very plain that there mission is to educate people on how they can make a difference and also to provide a user friendly shopping interface that aids to people's desire to live a more sustainable life. If you haven't checked it out, I encourage you to do so!
