Earth Hour

Environmentalists have hailed this years Earth Hour as a big success. Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney and this year it was held on 3/28 from 8:30pm – 9:30pm in nearly 4,000 cities and towns in 88 countries. One sad thing is how little I heard about it through the local media in my area. Lets hope the world leaders will recognize that something needs to be done.

It was a beautiful event to see everyone participate in showing we care about energy. Use solar energy with products through DaylightGifts.com.

Earth hour is a great concept, so far as spreading the consciousness of getting our planet back in good shape.

At the same time, there are things that once harnessed, will have greater practical and lasting impact.

For example, it's now possible one’s home off the power grid entirely. I think the more this becomes known, the more common it will become. I’m currently in an apartment because my wife works close by where we live, but once we move out west in a couple years, it’s my plan to have the house producing it’s own energy.

Wouldn’t it be cool to get more than half the homes out there doing that? Eventually it would reach a “tipping” point where others sucking energy from power companies would feel like they are losing out- and losing energy money. And they would be. gethomemadeenergy.org

Earth hour is a wonderful idea. Not only is it reducing the energy used in these major cities for a big chunk of time, but this being done all over the creates a lot of media frenzy. This media attention, however, is a good thing. It alerts every one of the problems our energy use is causing. Many people may not know the severe problems that the way we, especially us Americans, use our energy causes. This is a great way to make a point, alert the masses, and save energy at the same time.
Of course, many people realize that turning off the lights in a major metropolitan area for one hour can save a lot of electricity, let alone energy. However, just turning off the lights in your house for an hour can make a difference.
We definitely need to be more energy conscious. There are many simple things that take little time and effort that each of us can do to decrease our energy use.
When one thinks of all the adverse effects global warming can have on our environment, it is great to know that simple things that we can do can help out. This definitely makes me feel like wanting to do my part. I want my kids to be able to live in a safe and pleasant world and I want to do my part to make it that way.
There are other things to do besides turning off lights and other items that use electricity. One can use energy saving shower heads and toilets that use less water. You can also use energy efficient light bulbs that use much less energy than regular light bulbs. There are also special power strips that save energy and electricity.
Cleaning is something that all of us do, but it is also something that releases harsh chemicals into the air. There are many “green” cleaners that are more eco-friendly.
Also recycling is a big thing. This is something that everyone can do. Recycling paper and plastic bottles and other materials allows these materials to be reused and saves space in land fills. One thing that people can do is use reusable bottles instead buying bottle water and drinks.
There are so many green initiatives that we can take part in. Many venues in many different cities have green events to educate its citizens on things they can do that are more environmentally friendly.
Many companies have also researched alternative energy sources such as wind, water, and solar power. These are definitely things that should be looked into further. They can be of great help in the future in creating a cleaner, safer environment for us and our children.

Going green is really important to everyone these days. Now that 2010 is upon us more cities should think like San Diego. We just got news from the Mayor that we might be going more green!

The green movement is here to stay. They keep having to add more recycling containers where I live just to keep up.

I only wish I could be there for Earth Hour! maybe someday they will hold it in a city closer to me! We love helping businesses, especially, make Green decisions. We promote the use of reusable bags, especially cotton bags since they are biodegradable.
