Florida's Public Service Commission has approved plans to build the largest commercial solar power plant in the United States. SunPower has been selected to build the largest solar photovoltaic power plant in the United States, a 25-megawatt power plant in DeSoto County, Florida and is expected to go on-line in 2009. According to Treehugger, SunPower will install the highest efficiency solar panels on the market as well as the SunPower Tracker system, which tilts toward the sun as it moves across the sky. Two other facilites were also given the green light, one at Martin County and one at the Kennedy Space Center. Solar is a good idea, but there are certainly pros and cons. The amount of water and energy required in producing Silicon is, for instance, a problem. The inconsistency (0-night-time energy production) is another problem. There are others, which you may want to examine on Debatepedia's pro/con article on the subject:

I think less consumption is an important part of any energy revolution. I am all for renewable energy like solar power, but we need to turn the thermostat down in our houses too.

I agree with g-man. Solar panels are great but there are definitely some problems too. My blog has some information, too.
